Wolverhampton in the 50's and 60's

About Us

I am a wulfrunian born and bred, Most of my generation seem to feel that we saw the best of our home town growing up as we did in the 1950's and 60's.  Our life and times defined who we became and Wolverhampton and its heritage was part of that process.  So many places have been lost to progress, some of which seems a retrograde move.  The 50's and 60's were our time.  We saw in the space of just 20 years, such world shattering events as the Cuban missile crisis, Kennedy's assasination, The Profumo affair, Concorde, the space race and the Apollo 11 moon landings, Vietnam and the birth of satelite communications. we watched as the world grew smaller around us. With the coming of a new age we also watched as our town was destroyed piece by piece, layer by layer as we saw the loss of industry after industry, we saw whole chunks of the city lost to the bull dozer with homes, shops, pubs; all lost to what is seen today as a white elephant.  In short we were robbed of our heritage.  We are just ordinary people who cared for the town we grew up in.  The recent civil disturbances show just how little folk care for the town these days, we remember the town of Wolverhampton with the affection and respect it once earned.
